For too long the NSW Labor Government has locked recreational fishers & local communities out of the state's waterways.

By locking up fishing areas into Marine Parks, NSW Labor has compromised lifestyles, hurt local families, coastal economies and tourism industries.

Labor has spent millions of taxpayer dollars on the creation of marine parks which are based on politics, not science.

It’s time the people of NSW stood up to Labor and joined the campaign to stop the Labor Lockout!

Fishing is one of the greatest pastimes for families in this country but sadly the approach of the State Labor Government in managing NSW’s beautiful waterways has become a case of simply locking them up and throwing away the key.

My name is Bill Marchment and I’m 70 years old, retired and my main recreation is fishing. You can imagine my alarm and disgust at the proposed new Marine Park that includes Lake Cathie. I’m further dismayed that such a small minority in the Government can have such a huge impact on the majority of the population.

I hear that the fish population is in dire straits. Wrong, rubbish and completely off the mark! I challenge anyone to fish with me for a reasonable length of time and I will prove that there are plenty of fish in the ocean and estuaries.

Do you have any idea what devastating impact you will have on all recreational fishermen? There are hundreds of thousands of us who are worried and distressed at the Marine Park proposal. Come down to Lake Cathie and see the hundreds of families fishing on any given weekend. Who could be so mean spirited to take that away?

  1. Like fish bait the ALP is dead in the water....and more than a little on the nose !
Time for them to go ! Like now !
  2. It's about time we sort some bottle and commitment from a political party. This has been a long time coming, and is appreciated by all those who care!
  3. This is a worthy issue for close consideration. Sensible recreational fishing is a pastime that should be encouraged as engaging with the outdoors and experiencing what this country has to offer. Marine Parks that prohibit recreational fishing are not the answer to the real threats to our marine habitats and populations.
  4. The real threats impacting upon our marine environment and associated ecosystems are : - 1) pollution in all its forms, 2) coastal development, 3) some agricultural practices, 4) introduced pest speies. Family recreational fishing is not one of them The current state Labor government acknowledges that. However they find it more politically expedient to needlessly ban family recreational fishing than address the real issues. That's why their marine parks are known by scientists, marine biologists and fishers as "politicalparks." NSW recreational fishers will NOT be hoodwinked !
  5. It is great to see the Coalition supporting the bill by Robert Brown of the Shooters Party which will put a moratorium on the declaration of any more marine parks in New South Wales for five years, and impose a five year moratorium on expansion of sanctuary zones in any existing marine protected areas.
  6. So like are you blokes trying to steal a few ideas from the The Shooters Party?? Didn't they announce a similar initiative a few days back??? :P
  7. Where the hell was the coalition when we needed help to stop the marine park being imposed upon us in the Great Lakes area? We hads serious financial backers to help advertise against labour using this platform in the last state election but the coalition didn't want to know us because:
    (1) They (wrongly) thought they were a shoe in, and
    (2) We are a s afe coalition seat, and
    (3) Even if in government they are going continue to implement marine parks because they will prostitute themselves to get Green votes and/or preferences.

I was a hereditary coalition voter, but now you can whistle dixie unless you promise roll-back not just moritorium. Until you do you are still the same bunch of dills that lost an unloseable election and allowed ordinary people in the Great Lakes to be treated as criminals for catching a fish.

    Go jump in the lake
  8. What a pitty it was the Coalition that started this in the first place. You will not stop the rot while those that manage the fisheries at the top are swayed by the lies of environmentalists and political gains achieved by selling out the rights of the fishery. This partition does nothing and will do nothing because it solves nothing.:-(
  9. I like the jacket Mr Gay is wearing.
  10. This great and timely initiative is just what NSW recreational fishing families want, in the interim. A steadfast stand, by a political party that has widespread community credibility and can really make a difference, being destined to be the next NSW state government. (Thank goodne3ss for that too!) And all fishing families keenly look forward to an alternate and acceptable marine park polcy, that recreational fishers have had the opportunity to participate in. Well done Nationals and Liberals. You are just what the doctor ordered.

I join the NSW Shadow Minister for Industry Duncan Gay and call on the Premier of NSW, Kristina Keneally, to place an immediate moratorium on the creation of any more marine parks.
